MAC Passions of Red :: Product Photos
Friday, October 24, 2008 at 12:14PM
With Passions of Red I picked up one palette of each; a shadow palette and a lip palette. Now I usually don't get along well with lip palettes but I thought I would give this one a try.
The aluminum casing is embossed in a snakeskin texture and presented lavish faux jewel at the center. The eye palettes come with six shadow colors and the lip palettes come with three colors (two lipstick options and one gloss).

Today was the official launch of the Cult of Cherry collection by MAC. With some new shades to look forward to, some wonderful classics, and some outstanding blasts from the past; I think that MAC's case in point here was to remind you of just how potent and fierce you can be when you have the right ingredients.

Print Article M.A.C. Cool Heat Recap & Review
Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10:24PM Before I start, my apologies for being super late on this review. For starters I ended up ordering the items from MAC online instead of my usual trip to the store and then when I finally got it in the mail I became bombarded with random life plans and was super busy (actually I still am!). I tell ya, I swear that 24 hours is sometimes not enough in a day for me! Now on with the review...
I was excited to hear that this collection was coming out because I love blue, but did not have many blue eyeshadows. I was glad that MAC was able to put this collection together and bring together so many different hues that virtually almost anyone can find a liking to. I only got five eyeshadows: Warming Trend, Warm Chill, Blue Flame, Gulf Stream, and of course Cool Heat. I didn't want any of the slimshines because I already have a few of those and honestly I don't use them at all. As much as I am a die-hard MAC fan, I just wasn't going to buy something that I know I would waste or make immediate use out of.
The Shadows
Warming Trend: Very pretty frosty light taupe. This shadow comes in a Veluxe Pearl finish (one of my faves besides the duochrome), and its beautiful. It actually reminds me A LOT of Femme-Fi from the Neo Sci-Fi Collection! Which is good because that has become my new favorite base eyeshadow. I think that the only difference is that Warming Trend is a bit more neutral in tone and Femme-Fi (because it has more white in it), seems to be more visible on certain skin tones than Warming Trend. However I find that on myself at least both of these colors look exactly the same when applied. So for those of you who missed out on Femme-Fi, this is a pretty close duplicate.
Warm Chill: A frosty seafoam green with gold pearl shimmer. This shadow comes in a Frost finish and is great alone of accompanied by other similar hues. I love how it goes with my olive skin and really does compliment when blended with other darker hues. This will be probably one of the most popular amongst this collection. The color is gorgeous!
Gulf Stream: This is a frosty mid-tone blue green with green pearl in a Frost finish. I love this color because it is a 'safe' blue hue that can be worn day or night. It is one of those colors that can be played up to be dramatic or toned down completely. I see myself getting alot of use out of this shade.
Cool Heat: A frosty teal with multi-dimensional pearl in a frost finish. For those of you wanting to experiment with teals, this is the way to go. This color is amazing with gold hues. AMAZING! Definitely a color to combine with others instead of wearing along. But trust me that especially now in this summer heat, your sunkissed tanned skin and this eyeshadow will look oh-so-glam!
Blue Flame: A dirty metallic navy blue in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is possibly my favorite of the bunch. I love this color because it is so intense. The finish is just beautiful and definitely a strong color but not too intimidating either. Great for nights out on the town!

Overall, I love this collection because I think that there is at least one shade to compliment every skin tone out there! And trust that if you know me, it takes alot for me to say that. This collection captures it all from safe blue hues to daring ones. The colors are all amazing and all compliment each other, so you are bound to get an amazing look with whatever combo you go for. Trust me that you should consider this collection as an option for your makeup stash!
The limited edition MAC Cool Heat Collection is available in stores and online at maccosmetics.com.
Ask Roselyn: "What kind of eye makeup remover do you reccomend?"
Monday, June 2, 2008 at 10:55PM Q: Hi Roselyn. What kind of eye makeup remover do you recommend? Miriam, Orlando, FL
A: So glad this question was brought up. If you must know the truth, I don't recommend ANY eye makeup remover out there. Why? Well I have tested many, and with super sensitive eyes I just have yet to find one that is decent. Eye makeup removers are supposed to be powerful enough
to break down the dye in your eye makeup, making it easier for removal; but while it is powerful enough to strip your eyes away from any waterproof makeup, it is also powerful enough to harm your eyes as well. For starters, most eye makeup removers are pure oil. They are all silicone based and silicone can be extremely harmful to your eyes themselves. It can be irritating and cause temporary redness and blurring of vision. As for those eye makeup removers claiming to be "oil-free", they too are silicone based but carry a lesser quantity. These are even worse however. They instead contain astringents like alcohol that can be even more damaging and drying to the delicate skin around the eye. So whats left to use? Wipes? Nope, unless they are certified organic then they contain the same formulas. So what do I use you ask? Well believe it or not my holy grail eye makeup remover is good old Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo! This was actually recommended to me by an eye doctor (for those who don't know I wore glasses from the age of 2 to 17!!!) With it's 'no tears' formula, this is the most delicate soap on the market for eyes, so delicate that it's made for babies! I have washed even the most waterproof makeup off with this thing and it works like a charm. When I'm done washing, I have no red irritated eyes and no dryness either. Johnson & Johnson made money when inventing this 'no tears' formula! Try it for yourself, you can thank me later! ![]()
REVIEW : Nix'ie Cosmetics Mineral Eyeshadows
Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 09:22AM
Yesterday, I came home and received a wonderful thing in the mail....makeup! I love coming home to makeup, especially when its unexpected. Ahh...the perfect way to end the day! When I opened the mysterious box I discovered the most beautiful palette from Nix'ie Cosmetics. It was a 6-well eyeshadow palette containing some gorgeous shades, perfect for the spring. Nix'ie Cosmetics is a makeup line based out of California that is starting to catch the attention of many. I have read several reviews about their products and I have honestly yet to read anything bad, so this means that I was thrilled to start experimenting and playing with the palette so that I could experience what the hype was all about.

First, I must start off by saying that these shadows are huge in size! The eyeshadow pans are definitely much larger in size than M.A.C.'s which is a good thing because this means that you are getting much more product! Opening the palette, I was already drooling because the colors seemed so vibrant and so pretty. I noticed that most of them had different finishes; some were matte, and some were shimmery. So I then went online to see what colors I had received since they weren't labeled. I discovered that their shadows indeed do come in four different finishes:
Matte - Soft, flat pigment with no shimmer
Matte/Suede - Matte pigment with metallic flake
Suede - Velvety pigment with shimmer
Ultra Suede - Suede pigment with intense shimmer

So I looked at their shades and assumed that the colors I had received (*I think*...at least comparing my swatches to those on their site) were Babylon (suede finish), Pearl City (suede finish), Geisha Girl (matte finish), Gypsy (matte finish), Jelly Bean (matte finish), and Fever (matte finish). I then proceeded to test some swatches on my arm, and all I can say is...WOW! BIG COLOR PAYOFF! I did not expect to be that impressed. If you look at my swatch photo you can clearly see how great the pigmentation is. And the best thing about it is that these swatches were done with only one stroke of my brush! Usually when I do swatches I like to do several layers of the shadow for two reasons; the first being that I really want the color to project well on the camera for when I take my photos and the second reason is that I like to pack on color to my lids anyway so I might as well see what its like on my forearm first. But with these I was impressed because, it only took one stroke to get the color that you see in the photo...I did not have to pack on the color at all! I did not expect such great pigmentation from a mineral shadow. The textures of these shadows are also very soft and velvety, and they glide on very smoothly and are very easy to blend. Overall, I was truly impressed and recommend these to anyone; especially if you're on the mineral makeup bandwagon! The pigmentation of these shadows are equivalent to those of M.A.C., if not better and the amount that you get is definitely more! I am siked to have tried these out and will be doing a face of the day with these very soon! I cant wait to get more colors and try all of their other stuff! REVIEW: M.A.C. Dress Camp
Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 12:56PM
This collection has made M.A.C. history! The Dress Camp collection became the most anticipated makeup collection not only in the history of M.A.C. but cosmetic history PERIOD! Never have I seen something so exclusive and so limited and I am very lucky and fortunate to have been a part of that.I must say that out of all 2008 collections for M.A.C. I definitely was excited to hear about this particular launch, but never did I think it would receive the attention that it did; simply because Dress Camp is a designer clothing collection from Japan that not too many people know or have heard about in the states. It's definitely not as popular or as known as let's say...Heatherette; and in that note I DEFINITELY expected wayyy more out of the Heatherette collection than what I did of Dress Camp; well I actually expected the Heatherette collection to dominate M.A.C.'s praise for 2008, but with this Dress Camp launch, Heatherette bites the dust.
To start off, I must say that I am truly in love with the casing for this product. The zebra stripes definitely make the items pop and the gold accents truly add to the luxe appeal of all of the items. Heatherette was fun and pink and very glittery, but it was just that...fun. As for Fafi, I was very disappointed with their packaging. The Fafi quads were okay, but I think that M.A.C. could have done more, and the Fafi lipsticks, were decorated by plastic casing on the bottom which easily came off when I opened my lipstick (talk about cheap!). But Dress Camp is oh so luxe and gorgeous! They definitely stepped it up here!
As for the colors go I can honestly say that these are the perfect spring shades for me. The pinks are bright but not overwhelming and the golds and yellows are eye catching and subtle. Its the perfect balance!
The Pink Powder blush is a strong pink shade but can definitely be played down with a light application; however this is a color that has potential so if you want a bright pink cheek this is the color for you, it reminds me of M.A.C.'s Sweetness beauty powder but with more pigmentation. The Sunny Girl eyeshadow is a very pretty yellow eyeshadow but not as strong in color, it is a shadow that builds more with a heavier application for a more intense vibrancy, a very similar color is Urban Decay's Eldorado. The Trend eyeshadow is a neutral shimmer tone but its not very pigmented. This is a color that really has to be packed on for a good color outcome. I'm not too too crazy about it, but its similar to Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy Rides Again shadow, but Urban Decay's is wayy more pigmented. The Golden Gold eyeshadow is more bronze than gold but definitely a pretty shade. It's very similar to M.A.C.'s Amber Lights but Golden Gold has more bronze undertones and a bit less shimmer.
Too Fab lipstick is an a bright pink with yellow undertones and somewhat sheer, but surprisingly pigmented. The color outcome is buildable, which I like because if I want to go settle with the the color then one layer would do just fine, but if I wanted to build the color then this shade gives me that option. I would compare Too Fab to Nars Damage or M.A.C.'s Full Fuscia, but Full Fuscia is more pigmented.
She Gold is my absolute fave!!! Its a golden lipgloss with gold shimmer and a yellowish base, Nars Moon Fleet and Dior's Chiffon Beige are similar but not exact. I like this gloss because its something that I can wear on days where I choose not to wear any makeup at all and its also a great gloss that can be universally placed upon any lipstick for a great glow. It's not the color that most people would expect simply from looking at the bottle, but it is a gloss that I truly like and will be making alot of use of.
Even though I am in love with this collection, I can honestly say that it can be duplicated with other shades very easily. I think almost every product in this collection has a twin out there and the dupes I mentioned are pretty darn close. Thus far, I think M.A.C. chose great colors and the combination represents the Dress Camp designers very well. I am very pleased with this launch and by far this is my favorite collection that M.A.C. has put out for 2008. Yay for Dress Camp!P.S. Remeber that there is still time to enter for a chance to win a Dress Camp palette and own a part of M.A.C. history!!! Click HERE for details.
FOTD : Milani Wild Violets
Friday, April 18, 2008 at 07:55AM
Here is a look that I did with the Milani Eyeshadow Quad in Wild Violets. This is a very pretty quad with awesome pigmentation and this look is great on dark eyes. You can purchase this quad at a drugstore for about 5 bucks.
I mainly used the two colors on the left side of the quad, and added M.A.C.'s Nylon as a highlighter to the brow bone. In addition I lined my lids with a purple eyeliner pencil (don't remember the brand), and added my Lancome Fatale mascara and was good to go.
On my face I used M.A.C. Prep + Prime as my primer, M.A.C. Full Coverage Foundation in C40, Studio Fix in NC 35, and Chanel's Blush in Mocha. For my lips I used M.A.C.'s Lollipop Loving from the Heatherette collection and topped it off with Nars Lipgloss in Turkish Delight.
See the images below for clarification on the steps. You may need to click on each image to enlarge them. Have fun! XOXO~Roselyn
